Star Mumbai Indians’ (MI) pacer Jasprit Bumrah emerged as the chief architect behind his side’s second win of the ongoing IPL 2024. MI thrashed Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by 7 wickets win on Thursday night and moved to the 7th place in the points-table.
Opting to bat, RCB were restricted at 196 runs in the allotted 20 overs, thanks to Bumrah’s (5/21) heroics with the ball. Bumrah packed back a dangerous and in-form Virat Kohli on his individual score of 3 runs. Bumrah jolted the visitors at regular intervals before Ishan Kishan (69) and Suryakumar Yadav struck blazing fifties for the hosts to guide them home comfortably.
Notably, it was Bumrah’s second-best bowling effort in the league after his 5/10 against Kolkata Knight Riders in the last edition. With 10 wickets from 5 games, Bumrah now leads the chart for top wicket-takers in the ongoing season.

Bumrah, recipient of the Player of the Match award for his exceptional bowling show, attributed his success to his versatility and avoidance of relying on a singular technique while bowling. The fast bowler expressed that it was very challenging in the shortest format of the game.

“I will never say I wanted to take a five-for. The wicket was sticky and I am very happy with the contribution. In this format, it is very harsh for the bowlers. I try to not be a one-trick pony, I have worked on this early in my career. People start to line you up. I want to have different skills,” the speedster expressed after the match.
Bumrah emphasized the importance of preparation in achieving a successful performance. He utilized his toe-crushing yorkers, slow dipping full toss, and consistently landed the ball in the correct length and precise areas to deliver his most impressive performance of the current season.

“Bowling is tough because you will have to take a beating. When things have not worked out for me the next day I have seen the videos and analyzed what did not work. Preparation is always the key. Important to keep pushing yourself before a game. It is not a one-trick pony. You don’t always have to bowl a yorker, sometimes you bowl a yorker, sometimes a short ball. There is no ego in this format. You can bowl at 145 (kmph), but sometimes it is important to bowl slower balls,” said Bumrah.
Bumrah expressed satisfaction with his performance, attributing the challenging conditions to a sticky wicket in the initial 10 overs. Consequently, he devised a strategic plan during his second spell in the latter part of the RCB innings.
